Core tools
Go as the sweet spot – zen-like simplicity meets performance, ideal for distributed systems. TypeScript where flexibility is needed. Python as the screwdriver for automation and LLM experiments. React for interfaces (SolidJS when I get to choose), Vue/Nuxt recently proving surprisingly practical for rapid iteration. Svelte elegant but sadly rarely acceptable. Angular preferably avoided when possible.
Infrastructure
AWS as primary cloud environment. Go as the cloud language – writing services that actually scale. Python for automation and orchestration. Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes when it makes sense), CI/CD pipelines. Observability with Grafana and Prometheus as mandatory baseline. Recently experimenting with practical LLM applications in operations automation – results promising, though requiring caution.
Philosophy
Technology as a tool, not an end in itself. Go as zen-like balance between simplicity and performance – a rare combination that simply works without philosophical debates. Currently investing serious time in Rust – the learning curve is real, but the payoff for systems work feels worth it. Elixir and the BEAM ecosystem intrigue me for different reasons: fault tolerance patterns that make distributed systems actually resilient. Using what solves the problem, not what's fashionable.
Methods
Iterative delivery over big-bang releases. Observability from day one – you can't fix what you can't see. Automation of repetitive tasks because humans make mistakes when bored. Code review as knowledge sharing, not gatekeeping. Documentation that explains why, not just what. Technical debt tracked and paid deliberately, not accidentally accumulated.
